When Nancy started this piece, it was going to be in black and white and abstract. Once she started cutting out the pieces, she came across the skeleton bones within the fabric pieces that she was cutting out and it changed the whole theme of the piece. The skeleton is a traditional symbol of the famous Day of the Dead holiday. The colors in the piece bring her joy and remind her of happy celebrations of life. The ravens in this piece also have special meaning as many live in Nancy’s neighborhood and she has statuettes, sculptures, and small raven images around her house.
